Happy Tuesday,

As I write today’s Victory Letter I am sitting in awe of the fragility of life. Sleeping nearby me here in the hospital is my husband, Ed who yesterday had a lifesaving procedure that put two stents into his heart valves.

Thank goodness he had the foresight to have regular stress tests to insure his heart was functioning properly. On Friday he discovered that it was not, and on Sunday, we found ourselves in the emergency room at our local hospital in Boulder.

Ed has been my love and life partner for nearly 40 years. I could not begin to imagine my life without him. Yet in the day to day of life we can tend to get caught up in the things that don’t matter so much and something like this brings us back home.

This morning I am looking at the world with some new mental glasses on. My message to you is around paying attention to the stress loads you carry with you each day. While part of Ed’s situation is genetic, part of it was his diet (even though we are vegetarian we are looking at going vegan), there is also the element of stress that comes into our lives. Over time, it starts to wear us down mentally and physically.

For all of us, we never know when the hands of fate are going reach out and make some life changing alterations.

Take a moment for a self-stress test. I looked up the top things that help to keep stress down and here are some great solutions. Ask yourself how you are doing in these areas when thinking about stress loads on your mind and body:

1.    Exercising regularly.

2.    Making time for fun with friends and family.

3.    Getting enough quality sleep.

4.    Maintaining a positive attitude.

5.    Practicing relaxation techniques like meditating, listening to music.

6.    Finding and enjoying a stimulating hobby.

Which of these six areas do you think could use improvement in finding more time to do. Not only for reducing your stress but also to enjoy your life more. Remember there is no time like the present.

I will leave you this morning this amazing view currently outside the window of our hospital room. A beautiful full moonset over the Boulder Flatirons. A lovely way to celebrate my husband’s new and improved heart muscle. ;)
