Connected Strength

There is no such thing as a self-made man/woman. We are made up of thousands of others. Everyone who has ever done a kind deed for us, or spoken one word of encouragement to us, has entered into the makeup of our character and of our thoughts, as well as our success.

This morning I sit in reflection of the Thanksgiving festivities that were just enjoyed and celebrated with my family. I love the words of this quote today (given to me in a cookbook from my daughter Bailey) as they are a great reminder of just how much we are intertwined with each other.

With some people we are connected for 5 minutes and some, like our family, a lifetime.

With my children Travis and Bailey not being able to also come home for Christmas we decided to celebrate that holiday over the weekend as well. One of the gifts that my son Travis gave us was a sculpture kit with the idea of immersing one hand of each of our immediate family members in the sculpture to represent the heart of our family.

My family and I creating the mold for the sculpture.

My family and I creating the mold for the sculpture.

It was an interesting process creating an exact mold of our hands and today's pictures are the final result. It is a great reminder of how we are intertwined and the strength with have comes from the company of others. We may not always get along because of our distinctive personalities, but when you remember to look towards that core of love (as with any relationship) it makes all the difference.

Removing the rubber mold to reveal the solid stone.

Now as you head towards the busy time of the holiday season ahead, be sure to not get so wrapped up in the “doing” of the season. Be connected in the moment with those who you wish to gather with and spend your time.

Take the needed time to remind the people you care about what they mean to you. Whether it’s a quick text/email saying hi, a long phone conversation, a cup of tea together, or the beauty of a greeting card that really shares how much you care.

Tis the season of giving ahead of us. Let’s give from our hearts!

Gratitude Gathering

Gratitude Gathering

Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.
— Melody Beattie

As the Thanksgiving week looms before us it is my hope that you are beginning to get into the vibe of this holiday before us.

Some will gather round the table with those they love, and others will hopefully find peace in where they are in the moment. The idea around this holiday is to give gratitude no matter where the day finds you.

Life can get hectic at this time of the year. Be sure to carve out some time for yourself to open yourself up to fully enjoying those whose table you find yourself sitting at. I am blessed to have 18 family members at my table this year and will need for sure to take some deep breaths along the way (as will they!). Compromise is the word I am taking into this holiday.

Recently during my morning momentum time, the words of a poem came flowing from my fingertips and onto the page. In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I want to say how grateful I am to be with you each week in this letter and to share this poem with you.

May these words bring you peace and a look into what’s possible each and every day.

Making each day a holiday.

A Morning Poem

Morning thoughts abide
A new day dawns, the rise of the tide

Freedom, joy and all in between
Beauty beholden and rarely seen

Gentle pink morning sky
Giving the courage to do more than try

Holding me up
Spinning me round

Keeping me focused
Eyes wide open, peace found

Never before has there been this day
A time to discover, run, jump and play

To feel our purpose, calling and might
Sitting with wonder as day comes from night

Here is where the essence of our day will begin
Stillness to opening all that is within

All is carried inside my mind, heart and soul
Our labors must be done with love - that is the toll

Blessings and thank you for the power I seek
Gives me this day to climb another peak

Writings and thoughts of what will be
Makes you - you and me - me

So excited that Travis and Bailey (my grown kids) will be traveling here for Thanksgiving from Northern and Southern California.  In the spirit of gratitude and compassion for the all those who have lost so much in the state of California I want to ask your help in giving to the California Fire Foundation. This is an established organization that assists in both financial and emotional support for those who have been affected by these devastating fires.

Thank you so much and wishing you many blessings at whatever table you find yourself lucky enough to be at this Thanksgiving.

Juggling Act

Juggling Act

The more balls you have up in the air, the more balls you can catch.
— Ryan Serhant

Life does seem like a juggling act at times.

What is something in your life that you have been wanting to do, or know you should be doing but keep telling yourself you don’t have the time? Does time become more of the excuse or there is true adversity that you face?

Recently my daughter, Bailey, asked my husband and I to try focusing our food choices around a plant-based diet to enjoy greater health benefits. At first the thought seemed impossible. No meat, no dairy? What?! What would we eat? Does that mean cheese too? Wouldn’t we be hungry all the time?

Bailey, who is an amazing chef, promised us that she would be there to assist us with our food choices like she does with her clients. Because we’re her parents we get a discount. ;)

The interesting part, the element that really had stopped me initially, was thinking about all that was going on in my life. How could I manage taking on that one more task (another ball up in the air) of learning how to eat so differently?

Just a few weeks into it now I am finding is that it has made eating more interesting – not an automatic reactive process but one that I am now putting more thought and effort into. We have not starved and actually are finding so many more new foods that are really much better for our bodies and taste delicious too.

The time issue I was worried about… when it’s something you really care about you have the time to make it happen. Also, having someone to help you through the process keeps you from having to do it on your own.

How would your life change if you threw another ball up into the air that would improve your life as you made it part of your own daily juggle? Who could help you catch it?

When we stretch and step outside the normal day to day of our lives there is so many treasures that can be found. If not now, when?

Golden Ticket

Golden Ticket

Preservation of life, and liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
— Declaration of Independence

This week in the United States for anyone over 18 years of age we have the golden ticket to vote. A ticket that allows our voices to be heard. Not everyone in the world has this opportunity to make significant change happen.

With so much political noise going on especially around the topic of money, it’s important for each of us to stop and wonder what matters most to us individually and collectively as we cast our ballot.

Money for sure matters but should it be driving everything? Will the person who won the $1.5 billion lottery use that money to gain happiness for themselves and others? Or will it leave them with more stress than before? A negative outcome has been known to happen more often than not in those situations of great “winnings.”

What is that ultimate golden ticket you are actually looking to find? Here’s a few questions to assist you in finding what matters most to you for your golden ticket to matter:

  1. What would truly make you happy right now? Especially something that is in your power to control, what would that be?

  2. What abundance could you fully appreciate today that is already in your life?

  3. Are your daily business activities just transactional and empty, solely to make money?Or, are they relationship based, allowing you to truly make a difference in another human being’s life?

  4. Do you feel you are living through repeating patterns trying to get somewhere that seems to be taking you nowhere fast?  Or, are you feeling fulfilled in the direction of your life as it stands today?

This week I hope that in addition to voting, you take the time out to reflect on your answers to these important questions. Because sometimes, the golden ticket was right in your hand all along giving you the best seat in the house.

Breath of Gratitude

Breath of Gratitude

I didn’t come this far to only come this far.
— Jesse Itzler

Do you ever find yourself working too hard?

You know the drill, you get so obsessed about what you are doing that it’s hard to come up for air.

One of the reasons I am compelled to go to conferences as I just did again recently is because it gives me the ability to stop and take a breath. To stop and assess my business from the outside looking in.

Stepping away allows me to fully appreciate the work I do as I learn ways to do it even better.

This week here in the U.S. we have another opportunity to step away and take a deep breath as we relax and enjoy the people we are grateful for in our lives and celebrate the holiday of Thanksgiving.

It is also a good time to take a deep breath before heading into the final 5 weeks of the year.

What I love about this time of year is the ability to stop and acknowledge what has gone well in this past year and to be honest about what could have been better.

This allows us to make shifts and adjustments as necessary before the new year is in full swing. The goal is always to stretch and grow either a lot in some areas or not so much in others.

In this week’s podcast, Your Victory Assets Portfolio, I dig deeper into this tool I use to take an annual assessment of where you are sitting in your business as the year comes to a close. Be sure to download your free pdf worksheet as well.

Some things may surprise you and some will remind you of all that is ahead of you because of the work you have already done.  Focus on your achievements, acknowledge your missteps and get ready to be even better in the year ahead.

During this upcoming week as you pay homage to the things you are most grateful for in your life, stop and fully reflect on the elements you have in your life that will best propel you forward.

With great appreciation for you and what you bring to the table I wish you a Happy Thanksgiving week as we take a mutual deep breath of gratitude.

Rise Up

Rise Up

Master I have fallen into the abyss,” he says.  “The waters are deep and dark.”

“Remember one thing,” replies his master.  “You do not drown simply by plunging into the water, you only drown if you stay beneath the surface.
— Paulo Coelho

These words rang out to me while doing some early morning momentum reading this past week from one of my ongoing inspirational go to books by Paulo Coelho, Warrior of the Light.

The words rang out because they so depict how we can feel as if we are drowning in a failure that somehow has appeared or seems about to appear in our life. It’s one of the reasons we usually avoid making change because we fear so much that element of failure.

This is especially true when it comes the topic I want to talk to you about today… money. I heard from a number of people from last weeks letter that their missing ingredient was money.

When money is in flow it gives us many things including food on our table and a roof over our heads – which is why it is so important to us. Yet it can become evasive if we don’t understand how to manage the flow of it.

Money is usually one of the key indicators to tell us whether we are headed in the right direction or not when it comes to the success we are seeking in our lives.

The act of worrying about money never solves the issues it may have created in our lives – usually it only makes it worse and keeps us from getting to the surface to find our ultimate daily joy.

What if every time you started to think you were drowning in money troubles you shouted the words “RISE UP!” and in doing so envisioned yourself coming to the surface of your perceived current money troubles?

It’s not the money itself – it’s the habits we have around them and what we want to do with it that matters. When the weight of money troubles keeps weighing us down it’s easy to stay weighed down.

It’s much easier to face our fears when we know what they are. When we can give the needed attention to the exact elements within our money troubles that are in fact creating the lack we can begin to make the needed changes.

A great book I just finished reading is You are a Badass at Making Money by Jen Sincero.  This is a book goes into the aspect of money in a pretty realistic and intuitive way. Jen shares her insights in going beyond how she was living her life constantly stopped by money well into her forties.

I did an honest and quick book review on my podcast. Take a listen to the latest episode or dive in and get the book

It’s time to rise up on your money woes. Let’s go do this!

One Missing Ingredient

Comment

One Missing Ingredient

Motivation gets you into the game – habits keep you there.
— Jim Rohn

What would you say is the number one missing ingredient in your business (or life) right now?  That one single thing that if it came together as envisioned in your minds-eye all would be good in your world?

It’s interesting how some things seem to come together so easy and some things in life that just seems to take forever!  We can get started, get distracted and then somewhere along the way try again and in the meantime miss an opportunity.

What’s important is to find the right formula to turn a good idea into a great idea without taking your eye off of it. That usually takes without a doubt what Jim Rohn talked about in today’s quote – motivation mixed in with some good habits in place around implementation.

This is also known as innovation that is more often than not is based on keeping our foot firmly on the gas pedal and not letting up until the idea has fully come to life.  Something that is much harder to do than just say.  Especially when you may lack belief and every two seconds you feel like you should be putting on the brakes.

In my initial work with my entrepreneurial clients I see all the time that they are missing the formula for creating a habit around keep to the course in order to bring the ideas fully to life.  And I say fully to life because you must look at it from all angles.

It inspired me so much I wrote an article for Colorado Biz Magazine last week – in honor of Halloween Digging into the Graveyard of Ideas

There are five major components:

1.     Understand the Pain Point to begin with.

2.     Innovation Factor and the solution it will provide.

3.     Bring the idea towards Profitability and the role it will play.

4.     Passion Points - Know what will keep you interested and engaged.

5.     Marketing Reach – allow the world to actually see this idea as you bring it to life.

The reality of the all the work that may need to be done to get what you want can be overwhelming and scary all at the same time. An idea fully brought to life requires a whole lot of commitment.

When we cook we have to commit to using every ingredient. A lack of confidence on just one ingredient can completely ruin the recipe. To thrive with your business and personal ideas, they need every ingredient in the process to be used properly and confidently.

It’s a mindset thing. Our inner critic tries to protect us, but without the right ingredients this inner voice can restrict us from moving forward.

Question for Reflection
What is your missing ingredient to take that big idea where you need it to go in the immediate future? Is it courage, focus, belief, passion, creativity, profit, innovation, marketing, or  _______?

Nearing Completion

Sometimes victory takes a little longer than we initially expected.

Currently we are in the middle of what has turned into a pretty major home remodel. This project started from a little vision my husband had that quickly got bigger and bigger as the two of us collaborated over it.

We saw the need, or the dirt as Louise Hays shares in todays quote, and we were ready to create an element to our home that will make a major difference the moment you walk in our front door.

Create the Willpower

As the words for today’s Victory Letter start to ooze from my brain I keep thinking what it is that actually happens to get us past the expected mile. In a world that can throw so much at us in a given day, the one human strength we each possess that rises us up past the daily grind - it is willpower.

The ability to move past the adversity and downfalls of our lives with the needed belief and faith, even when the cards seem stacked against us we head towards what matters most.  I can think of so many examples in the last few weeks where I have seen willpower in action.

Make America Grateful Again

Unless you have been living on an island somewhere, you are as painfully aware as I am that here in the United States tomorrow is Election Day.

I know that I need to tread lightly in the area of politics here in the confines of the Victory Letter realizing that my readers share a wide spectrum of political beliefs.  It’s important to me to honor and respect each individual’s beliefs something that I think has been lost in this grueling election process.
