What do you need in life to truly be sustained? Air, Water, Food, ____________ and ______________. (yes you fill in the blanks)
For me, the additional items that come to mind instantly is love and peace. Okay yes I grew up in the 60’s, however, they really are the elements that bring joy to my life and sustain me each day. How about you?
Over this past week my daughter Bailey has been home on vacation. It has been a wonderful visit and on a number of occasions I found myself with that special feeling in my heart knowing that both my children were sleeping peacefully here under the roof of the place we have called home for over 21 years.
During the first day of Bailey’s visit I walked in the house and could hear her and Travis laughing down the hall. That was a source of such great peace to hear my grown children laughing - together - something I have missed hearing for some time.
It is the little things that make the world go round.
Mother Teresa said, “We think sometimes that poverty is only being hungry, naked and homeless. The poverty of being unwanted, unloved and uncared for is the greatest poverty. We must start in our own homes to remedy this kind of poverty.” How true is that? Powerful words.
This Monday morning finds us right between, Easter Sunday and Earth Day. An interesting place to be as we look at sustainability and honoring what has come before us as we insure there is something that comes after us.
Our topic this month - Self Control with Money, insures we that we have food in our belly and a roof over our heads. However, the element of love and peace, or love and caring as Mother Teresa expressed it, are the elements that make it all so awesome.
Perhaps it all comes down to gratitude. Og Mandino quote today starting off this letter states- the ability to continuously be looking for that seed of triumph...even when things don’t go exactly as we had hoped. Sometimes it just looks different than we thought it was going to be.
So as you head off into your week remember your ability to sustain and those key ingredients that work best for you. Keep planting the seeds for tomorrow, today. I will leave you with these meditation words from Mark Nepo. . .
All the buried seeds
crack open in the dark
The instant they surrender
to a process they cannot see.
You have the ability today and every day to be the seed for change and sustainability in your life.
Happy Earth Day!
