A New Year Approaches

“Creativity is the power to connect the seemingly unconnected.” – William Plomer

As the minutes click by we are tiptoeing closer to the end of the year 2008. Doesn’t it seem like just a few minutes ago we were celebrating this new century? Now eight years have come and in a couple of days will be gone. The ticking of time as we have come to know it.

Yesterday, Bailey and I headed out to see the movie The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. A movie all about our time on this planet, except in Benjamin’s case he had it backwards – starting out old then becoming younger and younger throughout his life. It was an enjoyable movie, especially with its message about embracing change along with enjoying our time today, in this moment. We, in fact, don’t really know what tomorrow will bring but we can open our minds and hearts to the possibilities.

Light It Up

“A harvest of peace is produced from a seed of contentment.” – American Proverb

This week’s letter comes to you a day late as Monday found me a bit under the weather.  I decided to go with the flow and get the rest my body was asking me to give it.  So as I write this to you on Tuesday morning I hope that you are well and ready to flow into the holidays before us.

Joy for the Grabbing

“Until you make peace with who you are, you will never be content with what you have.” – Doris Mortman

This morning as my fingers hit the keyboard it is a balmy negative 10 degrees outside. Winter, which is not officially here for another 6 days, has arrived in full force. As I write to you this morning my heart and head are swirling with the events of the last 24 hours.

Yesterday morning about this time we were awakened by our daughter, Bailey and several of her friends, whose voices were coming from downstairs. Any of you who have teenagers know this is an unusual event at 6am in the morning. We were soon to learn that a friend of the girls was killed in a car accident on her way home from her first semester at college, late Saturday night. Jenny Martinez was not someone I knew but have come to find out was a person many people in our small town of Niwot knew and loved.

Possibilities Abound

“Our inner peace is our possibilities” – Cheri Ruskus

Last week while walking across my back patio to take something to the recycling bin I saw something I have never seen before in the 28 years I have been fortunate enough to live in this beautiful state of Colorado. Yes, let the history records note that on December 2, 2008 I saw not one but two yellow pansy’s growing in one of my patio pots that I had yet to put away. Yes! A pansy (one of my favorite flowers) in December!

It inspired me so much I decided to come up with my own quote for this week. I thought of it mainly because, for me, I find that when I am at peace with myself my creative possibility thinking tank goes bonkers! The ideas just start to flow and the possibilities just happen easily, purely and simply.

Moments of Peace

“Peace is always Beautiful ” – Walt Whitman

This morning as I begin to write the words of this week’s letter there is a peace in thinking about not only a new week but also a new month ahead of us. Peace the theme I have opted to take into the month of December. It is a simple word – just five letters long – and can mean so many things to so many people. The key I think is in feeling it thoroughly.

This past Saturday we had our first significant snowfall here in on the Front Range. There is something I find incredibly peaceful about waking up to a new fallen snow. Everything just seems to be as it should be. There is a lightness in the air almost a feeling that nothing should be touched to disrupt the peacefulness that the snow has brought.

Giving From Within

“Anything that has real and lasting value is always a gift from within.” – Franz Kafka

As the Christmas carols start to hit the airwaves it is hard to believe that the holidays are upon us once again. Thanksgiving is only days away, kicking off the countdown to Christmas and all that happens in between. As I write to you this morning I really feel at peace with the holidays ahead. I find that I am looking forward to the possibilities of family time and connecting with family and friends near and far.

When we were kids we would have about $20.00 to buy presents for everyone. As our family grew, we had to become quite creative in order to stretch that $20.00. This was accomplished by really focusing on what small gift (purchased or made) would make the recipient smile come Christmas morning. It wasn’t the value of the gift that brought on the smile but just being acknowledged and remembered.

Being of Service

“Sow good services; sweet remembrances will grow them.” – Madame de Stae

My mind these days has been wrapped around something we all enjoy partaking in, and that is not only good, but excellent customer service. When you feel that your doing business with a company makes a difference. The smiles you get, the gratitude you feel by your doing business with someone.

Saturday I found myself doing something I rarely do and that was go to the Shopping Mall. First of all, the good economic news was that many people were in fact participating in this past time that requires for the most part that money be spent. What the economists said isn’t happening – was happening in droves in Broomfield, Colorado.
